How to Organize Thousands of Screenshots on iPhone
Updated November 2026 · By the Bookmark team
Screenshots are the fastest way to save anything. They are also how a photo library ends up with thousands of receipts, maps and half-read posts mixed in with your family photos. You do not need to sort them all. You only need to be able to find the right ones.
Start with what your iPhone already does
Open Photos and find the Screenshots collection, usually listed under Media Types. It separates screenshots from your camera photos, so you have a much smaller pile to deal with.
Photos search can also find text inside images. Try typing a store name or a word you remember from the screenshot. It is more useful than most people realise.
Clear the clutter in one sitting
- Open Screenshots and start with the oldest.
- Select in bulk by tapping Select, then dragging across rows.
- Delete anything that has served its purpose, like boarding passes, delivery updates and old codes.
- Remember that deleted items wait in Recently Deleted for a while before they really go.
Keep the ones that matter in albums
Make a few albums for things you will need again, like Receipts, Warranty and Recipes. Do not try to file everything, or you will give up by the end of the week.
Why this does not last
Albums only work if you keep filing. And in a list of thumbnails, "IMG_4821" tells you nothing. Text search also needs words in the image, so it will not help with a screenshot of a pair of shoes or a place on a map.
A different approach
Bookmark reads the picture and gives it a name you would recognise. A file called IMG_4821 becomes "Green Leaf Market Grocery Receipt". You can share screenshots to it as you take them, then find them later by describing them. AI naming only runs if you allow it, and only on what you choose to save.
You saved it. Now find it.
