How to Find a Reel You Saved Months Ago
Updated November 2026 · By the Bookmark team
You know you saved it. You can picture the first few seconds. But scrolling through hundreds of tiny thumbnails is getting you nowhere. Here is the order we would try things in.
1. Check Saved, filtered to reels
Go to your profile, open the menu, and tap Saved. The Saved screen lets you view reels and posts separately, which cuts the scrolling down a lot. If you use collections, check the likely ones before All Posts.
2. Check what you liked or watched
If it is not in Saved, you may have liked it instead. Instagram's Your Activity section keeps your likes, and it can include recently watched reels too. Filters by date or account can narrow things down if you remember roughly when you saw it.
3. Check your messages
Did you send it to a friend, or to yourself? Open that chat and look through its shared media. It is often the fastest route, since a chat holds far fewer reels than your Saved page.
4. Search for the topic
Try Instagram search with the words you remember, such as the dish, the place, or a phrase from the caption. Popular reels often come back up this way, or you may find the same creator.
If the reel has gone
A saved reel can vanish if the creator deletes it or makes their account private. That is one reason to write down what mattered, like the ingredients or the address, when you save something important.
Stop this happening again
The real issue is that a save holds no words of yours. Add a few when you save, and future you has something to search for. A collection name helps a little. A short note helps more.
That is the habit Bookmark is designed around. Tap Share on the reel, choose Bookmark, and add a note if you like. Later, type what you remember, in your own words, instead of scrolling.
You saved it. Now find it.
